Whitby has something for all age groups and is one of the most visited resorts along the East Coast. Famous for the spectacular “Whitby Abbey” made famous by the author Bram Stoker, as it was said to be his inspiration for the Dracula novel.
The 199 steps leading up to the abbey are well trodden and form part of the Cleveland Way walk. Whitby has lots of independent shops and art galleries as well as the very popular jewellery shops that sell the Jet jewellery that Whitby is famous for. Whitby hosts many a festival throughout the year making it a perfect all year round resort to visit. From the famous Goth weekends to the Folk festivals there’s plenty to enjoy.
The North York Moors National Park is full of woodland trails and cycle tracks as well as the wonderful North Yorkshire Moors steam railway that runs through the middle. The steam train leaves Whitby and travels over the moors towards the market town of Pickering. You can call off at Goathland to see the village where the ever popular TV programme Heartbeat was filmed. This lovely little house is a great base to see Yorkshire. Beach 1½ miles.
