Ruxton Farm is in a peaceful location on the biggest loop of the River Wye. It is an ideal base for fishing, walking or canoeing and all facilities are within easy reach. There are good pubs and excellent restaurants close by. The farm is set in 14 acres and dates back to the Iron Age, where there was a fortified farmhouse guarding the access across the first of the ancient fords, complete with an internal well for security. A complete wooden framed structure was added in the 17th century, including the original staircase and hound gate, using timbers from one of the earlier bridges. A Georgian façade was added at a later date. The Mill (UKC1795) is a converted cider mill and granary with exposed beams and original stonework, whilst The Byre (UKC1796) is a converted 17th-century sandstone/timber stables and granary.
There are lots of attractions in the area to suit all ages including Goodrich Castle at Ross-on-Wye, Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo and Hedge Puzzle at Symonds Yat, Go Ape at Lydney, and Hereford, with its spectacular cathedral and Mappa Mundi. There are plenty of cycling opportunities along the Cider Cycle Route, the Ledbury route, or the 19-mile Pembridge cycle route. Take a guided tour and sample the Three Choirs Vineyard at Newent, or wander around Hampton Court Castle and Gardens. However you choose to spend your holiday you’re sure to find plenty to do in this area of Herefordshire. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile. The Mill (UKC1795) and The Byre (UKC1796) can be booked together to accommodate up to 8 guests.
