Scarborough‘s two bays are divided by the headland where the ruins of Scarborough Castle stand. This was one of the greatest royal fortresses in England, and is maintained by English Heritage. The Marine Drive runs round the base of the castle headland offering a pleasant, level walk to the attractions of the North Bay including Peasholme Park, Sea Life Centre, Alpamare Water Park and the Open Air Theatre.
For those who enjoy walking, the Cleveland Way passes the doorstep on its way to its final destination at Filey. The clifftop walks are spectacular, having far reaching views along the coast towards Filey and Flamborough Head.
The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton is just a short drive along the coast. Famous for the migrating puffins, it has proved to be one of the area’s most popular attractions where you can see thousands of puffins in their natural habitat.
