Dales Retreat is a wonderful townhouse-style cottage overlooking the marina and River Esk, just a short walk from the centre of the wonderful town of Whitby. The layout is perfect for family and friends with a contemporary kitchen and bedrooms, as well as an outdoor terrace, ideal for relaxing after a days exploring. There’s even your own parking space outside the property - a rare commodity in Whitby!
Fish and chips, history and culture, jaw-dropping views, festivals, vampires and goths - it’s all on offer in Whitby, one of the Yorkshire Coast’s best-loved seaside towns. With its intriguing characters and good transport links, Whitby is the perfect base for a seaside holiday. West Cliff is full of fun, with its paddling pool, skateboard park, bumper boats, trampolines and crazy golf. West Cliff is also home to Whitby Leisure Centre, tea dances and movies at the Whitby Pavilion Complex, and the famous Whalebone Arch - an essential Whitby selfie spot. The centre of town has many cafes, bars, bistros and restaurants as well as the small cobbled area in the shadow of the abbey which is home to many little independent shops. Annual summer festivals such as Whitby Regatta and Whitby Folk Week draw enthusiastic crowds to the town, and Whitby’s bi-annual Goth Weekender and alternative festivals in the spring and autumn attract an eclectic mix of characters. Enjoy the wonders of Yorkshire’s Jurassic Coastline with surfing, climbing, fossil hunting, sailing and fishing all on offer. Discover the secrets of the past held at Whitby Museum and learn about Whitby’s sinister history on a guided ghost walk or with a chilling visit to the Dracula Experience. Rich in maritime history, why not take one of the tourist boats out to sea for a unique view back inland of the abbey and the bay? Keep your eyes open for seals and whales that are often sighted just off the coast. The Yorkshire Heritage Coast has many bays and coves hidden all along, each with its own charm and history, from Staithes and its links to explorer Captain Cook, to Robin Hood’s Bay. Many of the beaches are quiet year round, so explore and find the one that is perfect for you
Head inland and enjoy the stunning scenery of the North York Moors National Park. There are 100s of walking routes in the area including the famous Cleveland Way and the Cinder Track, or take in the scenery from the steam train that snakes its way from Whitby to the ’Heartbeat country’ of Goathland and on to Pickering. Further afield you’ll find the traditional seaside resort of Scarborough and the walled city of York amongst the many places and things to do in this amazing area of the UK. There are theme parks such as Lightwater Valley and Flamingoland, a step back in time at Eden Camp wartime museum or choose from the many ancient abbeys to steep yourself in a bit of history. Beach 500 yards. Shops, pubs and restaurants 200 yards.
